Hello, let's talk books

Sourcing professional editing for the book you've spent months or years writing is a step into the unknown. We know, because we write novels ourselves, how important the right relationship is with your editor.

Is this you?

  • You've drafted a book and you know you need an editor

  • You've got your book to a place you're happy with, and now need some polish

  • You're not sure if your book is ready for submissions or publishing

  • You've finished your book, but haven't a Scooby what to do now

  • You are 100% committed to becoming a published author

  • You are ready to put in the work (because editing is a lot of work)

We can help you!

We treat editing your book like we're editing our own

You want to know your book is in good hands

We totally get it. You and your book deserve the very best editing service. At NYN, all of our editors write their own novels. We've been through the publishing process. We've experienced editing, how it feels to get feedback on a precious novel you're so nervous of sharing with the world. And we know how valuable top notch, honest editing is.

Authors need critique but confidence building and that is what we are all about at NYN. We also work with you beyond the initial edit, supporting you through self-editing and providing another round so you know if you've hit the right buttons.

You're never left hanging, wondering if what you've done is good enough. And you also get to speak to us. Just book a client catch up at any point to talk about your book.

And, we only work with one client at a time. So we can give you our full devoted attention.

Sure, it may cost you a little more, but isn't your precious book that you've slaved over for months worth it? Our clients certainly think so - see a few testimonials below.

Take your book from good to WOW!

You've got so far with your book, now is the time to make a smart investment to polish it ready for the next stage. Editing is a crucial part of the process of becoming a published author. Anyone can write words on a page, but it takes a special kind of someone to work on it ceaselessly until it is as good as it can be.

Our editing service is completely tailored to you and the price reflects that.

  • Developmental and/or line editing with editorial report

  • Proofreading

  • Two rounds of editing included (we edit, then do another read through after you've self-edited)

  • All meetings are free of charge, including kick off, wash up and two hours through self-editing

  • Quote provided after free assessment of sample and synopsis

  • Sample edit provided free of charge

Making a decision on this is a biggie, and we know it can take time to do so. But if you're ready to take the plunge, all you need to do is email us using the button below with a few details. We will request a sample of your work so we can provide a free assessment. We like to talk through your project on a call so everyone is clear on timings, expectations and pricing.

Once we are all happy, and you've approved your quote, you pay a deposit and then we are ready to start working with you on the dates agreed.

Please note: deposits are non-refundable and are paid at time of booking. This is to ensure that you remain committed to the schedule. Once work is booked in, every effort should be made by the author to stick to the timing and not shift, unless otherwise agreed in advance with NYN.

Developmental Editing

This is one of the most crucial elements of professional editing. It is really difficult to do yourself, because you become so close to your book and it gets difficult to see how it can be improved at this macro scale.

At NYN we monitor trends in publishing, we know what a great book looks like, we understand story beats inside out. When we read your manuscript, we are looking at it with fresh eyes, knowing what readers love, and what agents and publishers are looking for.

We are also all about the nurturing part of Nurture Your Novel - of course! We teach you what you need to know so you can apply it to future projects. This significantly reduces your costs going forwards as you become a more adept author. With greater skills come less work on corrections and coaching.

Our developmental edit includes:

  • First meeting between NYN and client to discuss novel and publishing aims

  • Initial read through, editorial assessment and chapter index including summary of plot beats with high-level recommendations with chapter by chapter analysis of: plot; structure; pacing; hooks; start and ending of chapters; plot holes; character development; setting; atmosphere etc

  • NYN and client check in to ensure recommended developmental edits are agreed

  • Developmental edit undertaken with high-level inline (within MS) line edit and returned to client with editorial notes, including author strengths and summary of recurring areas of development required

  • Provision of learning aids and guides (plus discounts to recommended courses)

  • Second meeting to discuss edit

  • Client self-edits. NYN remains on hand to answer questions via email

  • Up to two 90-minute coaching sessions can be booked during the self-editing phase to help with skills development

  • Client sends next version of MS to NYN for second read through, with clean formatting and any areas for in depth consideration highlighted

  • NYN assesses against editorial notes and provides final report highlighting any areas still needing work, including recurring SPAG issues that client can address themselves

Starts at £0.05 per word. No hidden extras. All meetings and coaching included.

Pricing plans available.

Line Editing

This is where we start to get into the nitty gritty of sentence structure, dialogue, action beats, tags, how your prose draws your reader in and how to get it working optimally.

  • Line edit undertaken with in-line commentary, track change edits and returned to client with editorial notes

  • Provision of learning aids and guides (plus discounts to recommended courses)

To book your project in

To get the ball rolling, drop us an email at info@nurtureyournovel.co.uk.

Tell us your genre, word count, a rough summary of your plot and an idea of your timeframes. Please remember that we only work with one client at a time so we book well in advance. We can give you an idea of cost, but the final quote will depend on lots of factors beyond word count.

When we have answered all your initial questions and agreed on an outline fee, please send us a sample of your manuscript with a synopsis. From this we can firm up a quote and provide you with a free sample edit.

A deposit is required at time of booking. Deposits are non-refundable.

We will only take your full manuscript one week before your work is to commence at which point your first instalment will be due. Copyright remains with the author at all times. Full terms and conditions will be issued at the time of booking when deposit is paid.

Invoices to UK clients are issued via Quickbooks. Paypal is used for all overseas clients.
